Summer break is in full swing at our house. When the kids are out of school, it is easy to let my daily routines slip and fall into the trap of unproductivity and wasted time. Our summer is jam-packed this year with obligations, activities, and travel. We have something on the schedule almost every week or weekend from now until school starts up again. If we are not careful to be intentional with our time, we will look up at the end of our summer break and wonder how it flew by so quickly. Did you ever stop to think that once your kids start school, you only have 12 summers to spend with them before they graduate high school?
Because our summer is so busy this year, I am looking to simplify my schedule in order to fully enjoy all the fun things we have planned. Last week, I posed this question on Instagram: What is one area of your life that you would love to figure out how to simplify?
I was blown away by the response. With more than 50 comments, I received answers that ranged from keeping the house clean, staying on top of the laundry, and meal planning to making time for personal dreams and aspirations, friendships, and family time without feeling the weight of so much else that needs to be accomplished.
I am a big believer in spending time wisely and choosing to be intentional about who and what we allow to take up our time. Some things are out of our control and must be done regardless, but we have more control over our time than we like to think sometimes. This is not something that I have mastered, but something I constantly strive to maintain. The more I hear from other people, it seems we could all benefit from taking the time to focus on simplifying certain areas of our lives so we can spend more time on the things that matter most.
That is why I created the Simplify Your Summer Challenge. Over the course of the next eight weeks, we will go through this challenge together. Each week, we will take actionable steps to simplify the things we encounter in our day-to-day lives. You will learn how to simplify your schedule by identifying your priorities, master your to-do list, and create routines that maximize productivity. We will also discuss ways to tackle mundane tasks and chores that are necessary, but most likely taking up too much of your time.
